The Westmoreland County Housing Authority (WCHA) has closed its Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Waiting List effective October 31, 2006. WCHA currently has over 2,000 families on its wait list. We are currently assisting families that applied in January 2005. The wait list will be closed for a minimum of one year.

During this period of time the wait list is closed, WCHA policies will only permit the acceptance of an applicant who is eligible for one or more of the following local preferences. Documentation verifying the local preference must be submitted by the social service agencies assisting the applicant.

Family Unification Program through the Children's Bureau;
Mod Rehab Program and Project-Based Assistance;
Homeless families (living in supervised public or private shelters);
A resident at an institution or in a group home preparing the individual for self-sufficiency;
Participants in transitional housing programs;
Natural disaster victims displaced by fire, flood, earthquake, tornado, ect;
Code enforcement by Federal, state or local government including public improvement or development;
Participants/graduates in educational and training programs designed to prepare the individual for the job market; and
Victims of domestic violence.

Applicants who qualify for this preference can apply through the social service agency assisting them; or by contacting the Section 8 Office at 154 South Greengate Road, Greensburg, PA 15601 Monday through Friday at 724-832-7258 ext 3054.
