The WCHA Scholarship Fund
The Westmoreland County Housing Authority proudly announces the eighth annual
WCHA Scholarship Fund. This Fund has been established to encourage higher education, community responsibility and to develop self-sufficiency
and increase self-esteem.
The WCHA Scholarship Fund will benefit high school seniors and adults entering post-secondary education
who reside in WCHA housing or participate in the Section 8 program and wish to continue their education.
WCHA will award two educational scholarships to eligible tenants in the amount of $2,500 each. These are a one-time scholarship.
REQUIREMENTS
- All applicants must be a Westmoreland County resident.
- All applicants must be a WCHA Public Housing or Section 8 tenant for 12 months prior to the scholarship application deadline. Applicants must be a household member and listed on the lease at time application and award.
- Any high school senior pursuing full-time enrollment in an accredited vocational/technical course, certified trade school, or a college or university degree program.
- Any adult entering or enrolled in a post-secondary education accredited vocational/technical course, certified trade school, or a college or university degree program.
- The perspective school must be located within the United States and the student must be registered on a full-time basis. A part-time status is acceptable for working adults.
- Eligible expenses will include, but are not limited to future: tuition, school cafeteria plan and activity fees directly related to the student’s education.
- The scholarship will go directly to the school that the student will be attending.
- For high school seniors, students must maintain a 3.0 (B) grade point average or better during their entire high school years. This average must be certified by the high school.
- All applicants must provide a photocopy of their high school diploma
or equivalent. Do Not send originals – they may not be returned.
Before the scholarship is dispersed, high school seniors must provide
a copy of their high school diploma.
- The awarded scholarship must be used for future eligible expenses
within a 12-month period from issue date or it will be forfeited and
returned to the WCHA Scholarship Fund.
- Applicants must submit a 400-500 word essay answering the question;
Based on today’s economy, where do you see yourself in the next ten (10) years? All essays will become
the property of the WCHA Scholarship Committee.
- All applications must be sent by the U.S. Postal Service or hand
delivered to 154 South Greengate Road, Greensburg, PA 15601-6392.
- The application must be received or postmarked no later than January
31, 2012.
- If you are graduating from a college, technical or trade school in May or June of 2012, you are NOT eligible to apply for this scholarship.
The Westmoreland County Housing Authority is responsible for reviewing all application requirements. A selection committee will be appointed to review all submissions and present their selection to the Westmoreland County Housing Authority.

Applications may be typed, computer generated, or neatly handwritten.
Applications cannot be accepted by email or by downloading it to WCHA.
ONLY SUBMIT REQUESTED DOCUMENTATION. IF ANY REQUIRED CRITERIA ARE MISSING from the application package, THE APPLICATION WILL BE ELIMINATED from consideration.
