Church View Senior Residences awarded $1.25 million grant

Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh (FHLBank) announced Thursday that Westmoreland County Housing Authority (WCHA) was awarded a $1.25 million grant under the FHLBank’s Affordable Housing Program (AHP) for its Church View Senior Residences development in Mount Pleasant Township.

WCHA’s Church View Senior Residences was one of 53 housing projects to receive an AHP award from FHLBank.

“I want to thank First Commonwealth Bank for sponsoring our application and FHLB for believing in the work that WCHA does in the county,” said WCHA CEO / Executive Director Michael L. Washowich.

Church View Senior Residences is a $5.6 million 20-unit senior development that is scheduled to open in the fall of 2026.

The development was made possible in part through the donation of 2.26 acres of land located off of State Route 981 by the Diocese of Greensburg to WCHA.

“WCHA would also like to thank the Diocese of Greensburg for the donation of the land and entrusting WCHA with this development opportunity,” Washowich added.

According to FHLBank, $61.3 million in grants were awarded through the AHP program and another $28.9 million through the voluntary housing grand initiative.

The grants will help finance 75 housing projects and create 1,823 homes for very low-, low-, and moderate-income individuals and families.

The 53 rental and 22 homeownership projects approved for funding will serve community members of varying needs, including people experiencing homelessness, individuals with disabilities, youth aging out of foster care, military veterans and seniors.

“It is WCHA’s mission to provide quality affordable housing for residents in Westmoreland County,” Washowich said.
